Off to Berlin (again)

January 17, 2011

On Thursday January 20th I’m leaving for Berlin, Germany with arrival on Friday. I have some business meetings (non-photographic) there next Monday-Wednesday, but the weekend in Berlin is reserved for me and my camera.

If you have seen my Urban Landscape galleries, you already know that I love photographing old abandoned man-made structures. Berlin seems to have a huge abundance of such places including my favourite, Beelitz-Heilstätten.

This trip I will be hooking up again with my good friends Dave Land and Dave Tree. I met these two photographers back in September 2008 at  Beelitz-Heilstätten. I was spending the weekend on-site shooting the place for the first time. While exiting a building I happened to hear them speaking English (the Queen’s type mind you) and we struck up a conversation. Since then we have visited many interesting locations together during my frequent trips to that city.

This trip we will be visiting Kraftwerksdenkmal Vockerode (a shutdown power plant) on Sunday. Dave Land has visited Vockerode before and some of his images from there contributed to his successful gallery showing late last year. I’m very excited about visiting Vockerode.

On Saturday, Dave Tree and I may try to find Schönwalde (a former airfield). Google Earth shows a large collection of building and huge hanger that is still standing.

I will be shooting mostly for HDR processing in these dark locations and conveniently this will provide some new material for a HDR presentation I will be giving February 9th at a local Camera Club. Stay tuned for some new images!

Auf Wiedersehen
