Updated web site and NEW BLOG!

January 16, 2011

Welcome! This blog is an extension of a major web site overall. The web site’s overall appearance may look familiar but under the covers there are big changes. You will see new images of course but both new and old images are now available for viewing at much larger sizes. All images have been given an overall and up loaded to the site at much higher resolutions.  The updated image viewer now supports flash and non-flash (e.g. iPad, iTouch, etc.) displays and offers a full screen mode. I think the full screen mode provides the best viewing option. I hope you will try it out and let me know what you think of it (look for the little rectangle with an arrow in the corner to the right).

For those interested in the technical aspects of the web site, all of the images are now stored in a My SQL Database and extracted, re-sized and supplied to the image viewer on demand. This is a big departure from the previous implementation. The ability to dynamically service all visitors with images optimized for their specific screen resolution takes additional processing and network transmission. It is my hope that you continue to find the site responsive and the delays in image rendering are minor and that the increased viewing size of all images is worth the little extra wait. Please let me know if you are finding unacceptable delays before images appear.

In the coming days, weeks, months I plan to use this blog to provide information on my various photo projects & trips and also to use it as a vehicle to give back and share information on photographic related tools, techniques and tips. I hope you will come back and see what I have been posting.

I still have some work to do behind the scenes on the new web site but plan to start posting content of general interest by the start of February.

Thanks for stopping by.

Cheers, Scott
